The availability of interval data provides many new opportunities to analyze usage patterns in order to identify potential energy theft or other problems or anomalies. One of the Aclara Software's MDM business applications – Aclara Revenue Assurance - is designed specifically for this purpose.

Aclara Revenue Assurance provides a powerful analytic tool to mine large quantities of meter information stored in the MDM Repository to generate a list of accounts representing lost revenue due to energy theft, meter malfunction or meter installation errors. Suspect accounts or meters that require further field investigation are managed and tracked within Aclara Revenue Assurance. The process begins by identifying customer attributes that have historically been a source of revenue loss, e.g. inactive customers with usage greater than 0. Users construct tests that can range from standard, run at a regular frequency, or custom tests using interval detail on specific customers. Using the sophisticated load profiling methods built into the application, Aclara Revenue Assurance compares and analyzes customer, meter and account data to identify individual consumption patterns and detect suspect consumption behavior.

Aclara Revenue Assurance leverages Aclara Revenue Management Solution’s Logic Builder to combine individual validation tests to better pinpoint suspicious accounts. Combinations of validation tests can be uniquely created based on customer type or specific problems previously experienced. This application allows the analyst to configure and maintain logic to test the contents of the MDM database and isolate those data anomalies that suggest a high likelihood of current revenue loss to the utility. Screens and reports automate the manual testing and review processes that are typically performed at a utility.
