Brad Kitterman – President
Brad Kitterman is President of Aclara, a division of ESCO Technologies. Brad is a utility industry veteran with 30 years of experience leading organizations and developing technology based solutions to solve customer problems. He began his career with Dupont as design engineer in several areas including biomedical equipment, robotics, and digital imaging. He later moved to the Electricity Metering Division of Schlumberger and rose through the ranks of engineering management to eventually head the North American Engineering Group. In 1998, Brad was promoted to President of Schlumberger’s North America Utilities Division. Under Brad’s leadership, revenues doubled from $300M to $600M in four years through both internal growth and acquisitions, such as Cellnet Data Systems and Convergent Group.
He has led a diverse set of businesses over the past ten years including U.S. Pipe & Foundry, LogicaCMG’s North America Energy & Utilities division, and the North American division of Asahi Glass Company. In each role, he combined visionary leadership with a strong background in operations and technical development to drive organizations to new levels of performance.
Brad holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and is married with two children. Karen Flathers – Senior Vice President, Services and SupportKaren Flathers is a recognized expert in the business of professional services and combines extensive experience building, organizing and growing consulting practices with an insider’s knowledge of SAP and its products.
During her 15-year career with SAP, Karen transformed SAP’s consulting practice from a small cost center into a profitable $1.3 billion business with 1,500 consultants and over 2,000 corporate clients.
Throughout her career, Karen has led consulting groups of varying sizes and at different stages of development. She has managed practices organized by industry, by geography and by solution area and has an in-depth understanding of the appropriate approach for each situation. Her early experience as a project manager means that her leadership principles are rooted in the reality of hands-on systems implementation.
Karen has a BA in International Relations and Economics from Brown University and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She currently resides with her family in Massachusetts.
Michael Garcia – Vice President, Human Resources & Org EffectivenessMichael Garcia, a Human Resources leader, brings in-depth operational and strategic experience developed in a range of industries. Michael drives to build operational partnerships and a high performing work culture, is Vice President, Human Resources & Organization Effectiveness for Aclara.
Before joining Aclara, he was Vice President, Human Resources for SSM Health Care, where he led the Human Resources and Clinical Education team for four hospitals in the St. Louis market, the St. Louis Physician Organization and the Behavioral Medicine Service Line. SSM is a non-profit, mission based, health care system.
Additionally, Michael managed Sage, Human Capital Group LLC, an organization he started. Sage is a people advisory business providing C-Suite service and experience that developed and implemented people strategies enhancing Human Capital capability.
Previous to Sage, Human Capital Group, Michael held senior executive positions at RehabCare Group, Nexstar Financial Corporation, Ernst & Young, and Prudential Home Mortgage. He started his corporate career with McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) where his last position was Consent Decree Manager.
Michael holds Masters and Bachelors degrees from the University of Missouri – Columbia.
Dave Hakala – Senior Vice President, Manufacturing Operations and Quality AssuranceDave has over 35 years of experience in the electronics industry in manufacturing operations, product and process development, and product assurance.
After receiving a B.S. in Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY), Dave joined RCA’s Electronic Components Division as a Member of the Technical Staff working on materials and process development. He continued his business studies at Indiana University and Columbia University.
Dave worked in a number of technical management roles in the RCA Picture Tube Division, RCA VideoDisc Division, and RCA Video Component and Display Division before becoming GM of CRT Development for Thomson’s North America Tube Division (NATD).
Making a transition to manufacturing, he was appointed Plant Manager of the Thomson Tube plant in Marion, IN and was then later promoted to GM of Tube Operations for NATD.
As Vice President of Manufacturing Operations for Thomson Consumer Electronics, Dave was responsible for all consumer electronics manufacturing, product development and product assurance for North and South America.
As COO of SpatiaLight Inc., a high tech start up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Dave led the development, marketing, and sales efforts in winning a contract for HDTV liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) imaging components with LG Electronics. A green field plant was built in South Korea to support this business, which received both ISO-9000 and LGE Supplier Quality certifications.
Most recently he was Director of Operations for ITW Rippey, supplying critical cleaning materials to the major manufacturers in the semiconductor wafer fabrication and hard disk drive media industry.
Dave and his wife Kathy currently live in Northern California, but plan to relocate to the Cleveland area. Terry Messmer – Senior Vice President, Finance and ITTerry Messmer is Senior Vice President of Operations and Finance for Aclara Technologies. Terry oversees the manufacturing, information technology, and finance functions. He became a part of the executive leadership team in May 2008 when he was named Chief Financial Officer.
In 2004, Terry joined ESCO Technologies, Inc., Aclara’s parent company. He served as Director of Finance and was responsible for internal audit and various operational audits.
Terry holds a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from University of Missouri-Columbia. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He and his wife, Kathleen, live in St. Louis, MO with their three children.
Rick Riccardi – Senior Vice President, Major ProjectsRichard Riccardi is the Executive Vice President, Major Projects of the Aclara division of ESCO Technologies. He is an experienced senior executive in the AMI industry with more that fifteen years managing the development, sale and marketing of advanced metering systems. He was president of Hexagram, one of the early leaders in development of fixed network AMI systems, prior to its acquisition by ESCO Technologies. Since then, Rick has held several executive positions with Aclara, including strategic account management, marketing, and technology.
Rick holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Case and an MBA from CSU. He is married with two children.
Nancy Rich – Senior Vice President, Sales and Account ManagementNancy Rich is Vice President of Sales and Account Management of Aclara. Focusing on global sales and business development, Nancy is responsible for strengthening the overall relationship with our account base, as well as building new business relationships. She leads Aclara’s tightly-focused industry-specific sales groups, targeting electric, water and gas utilities for new and cross-technology opportunities, matching client's needs with Aclara solutions.
Prior to joining the company, Nancy was Executive Vice President at Bridgeway Software, responsible for market development, sales, and contract negotiations for all product lines. Bridgeway is a leading provider of legal application and hosting services to Fortune 500 accounts and major Federal, State, and City agencies.
In 1996, Nancy joined Logica Corporation, an international technology and services solution provider serving the global energy and utility industries. As Vice President, Sales, she was responsible for management of the US sales and marketing organization, and product planning and development, and was instrumental in selling a large scale meter data management system to AEP which manages all retail transactions for AEP’s operating companies.
Earlier in her career, she worked at ABB Impell Corporation, a nuclear energy services firm providing engineering, regulatory analysis, and operations support to over 50 nuclear plants. During her 15 years with ABB, she held several positions including application development, project management, and business development.
Nancy holds a BS in electrical engineering from Villanova University. She lives in Marshfield, Massachusetts with her husband, John.
